Takaaki Nakagami: A Trailblazer on the Racetrack
Takaaki Nakagami is a Japanese motorcycle road racer. He was born on February 9, 1992. He currently competes in the MotoGP World Championship, riding for the LCR Honda Idemitsu team. He won the Japanese Road Race Championship 125cc class in 2006 and J-GP2 class in 2011. He made his MotoGP debut in 2018 with Honda Team Asia, and since then he has been riding for LCR Honda.
Nakagami, who was born in Chiba, joined the Harc-Pro Honda Team and competed in the Japanese Road Race Championship in the GP125 class in 2005. As a rookie, he placed 13th. He returned to the Japanese 125cc championship for the 2006 season with Harc-Pro, winning every race to become the series' youngest-ever champion. In 2006, Nakagami also became a member of the MotoGP Academy, which allowed him to participate in the Spanish CEV 125cc series abroad for the first time. Nakagami placed twelfth overall in the competition. His greatest performance was in the second round in Jerez, when he placed fifth.
